Review on Romantically Appocalyptic

Romantically Apocalyptic is an online comic by various artist, and features the adventure of the captain and Mr snippy in the post apocalyptic world. The story starts with Mr snippy exploring the deserted post apocalyptic world. As he monologues, he falls on his feet due to exhaustion.  As he’s about to give up, he sees a figure in the distance approaching him. It’s Zee Captain. Zee Captain is the protagonist in this story and also the antagonist. The personality of this character is of someone who would be considered sociopathic in nature. This web comic is an outstanding example of being one of the top rated one, as it has amazing visuals and has a very captivating story line. This graphic reminds me of the Batman comic which I had recently reviewed. Based on textures and placement of the characters, this comic captivates its readers and helps them understand how the world came to post apocalyptic stage and how the world was before the event took place.  As we progress further in this web comic, we get to know more about our protagonist and who he really was. And the introductions of the new charters is also well planned. I think the character designs in the web comics are well portrayed and all the panels look like digital painting artwork. The character designs in this web comic are some of the best ones I have seen online and can only imagine the amount of time it would have taken for them to plot it out, The magnificently plotted storyline is also well planned and is one of the best I have read so far.

Q&A class on The Authorithy

Are there prominent symbols in this story? If so, what are they and how they are used?

After reading the first two volumes of the authority, I feel there are few symbols that are prominent. In volume 1, where the symbol of the bad guys is a circle with smaller circles in the circle. Ina way it reminds me of some sort of aggressive religious order, where they want to make there mark. The design of the main character them selves, reminds me a bit of Justice league characters, such as swift, who reminds me of hawk girl, the Midnighter, who has a very similar to batman.  V for vendetta logo  is very prominent logo, because there is a comic about it and a movie which actually helps me connect with the story and Britain shirt- which reminds me of Rose Tyler played by Billy piper from Doctor who series cause she wore the same  shirt.

What connections did you make with the story? Discuss the elements of the work with which you are able to connect?

In the volume 1, There’s a clear direction of the universe the authority is in.  The world has accepted super heroes and super villains, however, the connections I can make the story, is by its visual appearance, its narrative, dialogue and the directions, its takes you me in.  The elements such as the design of the characters help me connect with the comic, because I see them as a very similar form to Justice league characters, like swift and midnighter, are very prominent figures and similar body structure as batman and hawk girl., the ship they travel in is  in many ways similar to the one in JLA. Personally I connect with Miss sparks, because she’s always calm and collected and always in control regarding her feelings and don’t let anything faze her.

What changes would you make to adopt this story into another medium? What medium would you use and what changes would you make?

I honestly, would not make any changes to the story, as it fits the superhero genre, even if I have to put this into a different medium as the story has potential and would like to how it unfolds. Moving forward though, I would like to know more in-depth detail about the characters past and how they felt when they first gained super powers. I  can go with any medium with this story, I can make it into anime, or a movie, or even a cartoon series.  Basically for the anime and cartoon series, we will needs to use cleaner lines and a lot more drawings that will help it to become popular.  In this kind of medium, we will also have to start of with origin story first rather than starting of the bat with a fight scene.  Something like how Young justice had done. When its comes to a movie on the other hand, it always makes sense to give each character their origin story movies, so that people can see how they come together, something like how marvel did, with, iron man, captain America, hulk, spider man and the others.

Review on Grant Morrison Arkham Asylum

I read Grant Morrison, Arkham Asylum, this week. Before I indulge any further into this comic, I would just like to express that I already knew about how the story would take place. Thanks to all the pop culture media, such as the cartoons, movies and games Even though it was my first time reading this graphic novel, I knew what to expect story wise, however, I was blown away with the art style that was presented into the graphic novel. The art style was completely off the map for all the other batman and DC comics I had read. Such crisp textures, the layout of panels, the color schemes, the roughness of the drawings. They were all so planned out that it was a completely different experience reading this novel. I asked Matthew hammers to more regarding this comic, as he is a big fan of batman and knows his inside and out about the DC universe, and he informed me that all the panels were actually hand painted by different artist on a large canvases. And have been photographed to fit into the panels. The version I read had a lot more in depth to the graphic novel than any other version. It was the special edition, where the script was attached to the comic after the reader finished reading the entire book and also had planning panel drafts attached to it. It was quite interesting to see how they had planned and all the changes they were asked to do and how they made changes to the graphic novel. This was truly one of the best graphic novels I had read.

Review on The Imposter's Daughter: A True Memoir

Firstly, I have to say, it was not easy , finding a link to the imposters daughter by Laurie Sandell. But it surely was worth finding the link. Right off the bat, I would say that illustrations are very unique and rough. However, As I read further, I realized that she wasn’t really concerned about the illustrations but the story, which was quite compelling. Its is an interesting reading about a daughter, who just wants to celebrate her fathers life, but ends up finding out something more than she actually expected.  She found out that her father was not who , she thought he was, He was a more than what he portrayed to be.  I don’t want to spoil the story here, so I wont go into details. Reading the imposters daughter had resurfaced my thoughts on how well and how much can one know a person you are close to. Especially with todays technology, you never know what the  other person is doing, while you are talking to them or texting them. Its is especially more fearsome to think about if you are in a long distance relationship, like me, where your girlfriend/ spouse may something they are doing and they might be doing something else, it also reminds me about how real life spies are, where none of their friends and family know who they really are and what they really do. Although having said that, I believe that, the author has hit the hammer right on the nails head, and that being, its all the matter of trust. How much do you trust someone close to you and even though it may leave you vulnerable, its not always about vulnerability but about trust. Trusting the person to be true to ones self in front of others is the true lesson this graphic novel has thought me.

Review on The Bus by Paul Kirchner

I will be reviewing the Bus by Paul Kirchner. When I first read the title, I had not expected what I was going to read or see. However, after checking the link out, my first impression was, exactly what did I read.  Paul Kirchner has taken an very unique stand point on graphic novels based in his strips and the characters that he introduces throughout his strips. His absolute understanding and viewing of a bus , a vehicle that everyone takes for granted, in his strips, we se the exact transport transform into more imaginative illusions. He portrays a us in several forms, such as a road, when in one of his strips he showed that all the buses at the bus depot, merge together to make a road for another bus to pass through it. He also shows how he’s in a jail, and all he does is draw a bus stop sign in the prison cell, and a bus comes to pick him home. Through is artwork and simple drawings, with no consistent story line, it defiantly makes one think about the use of a transpiration that is commonly available. Of course I feel that there will few who will argue that he is an environmentalist, and is trying to persuade the general population to use more public transport. Having said that, I have my own theory, I feel that he has been drawing these strips out of his amusement based on how he see the world is connected, by a bus.  I really love this artist , mainly because of his ideas and imaginations and really small  and simple plots that make me chuckle, which is unthinkable in real life.
